Should You Change Your Facebook Profile To A Video?
It seems like every time you turn around, there is some change to just about every social media platform. Well get use to it...that's what social media is all about! Change is how you stay relevant. If you choose to simply ignore the changes, then you may miss out on something great. But that's why I'm here, to keep you informed.
So let's talk about this new video profile for your Facebook page. Facebook recently just provided the option to change your standard profile picture to a video. The question is, should you change it?
The answer...it depends. What is your goal? I tend to use all my social media platforms in a different manner than others. I see no reason to not brand yourself on your "personal" profiles as well as your professional profiles. If you are a bartender at the local Buffalo Wild Wings, why would you not showcase that on your personal page? The more people that know you work there, the more likely they are to select your restaurant over others, and the more money you stand to make. You don't have to be an entrepreneur to brand yourself throughout your personal profiles. While we are on that subject, I really see no difference. Your chosen profession is a part of who you are. You aren't two separate people like some Batman character, you are the same person who just has different responsibilities throughout the day.
If you are looking to make your profile stand out, you should absolutely convert to the video profile. I have had mine up since the change occurred. I haven't really seen any feedback from others about it, but I know one thing is certain. My profile doesn't look like everyone else's. Mine compared to others gives me a leg up. But I have a clear objective.
If you do make the change, make sure that your video looks good. I wouldn't recommend just taking a profile shot of you sitting at your desk on your iPhone. Make it something interesting. If you are a thrill seeker, how about a cool video of you riding a wave. If you are an artist, paint something. It should reflect who you are. Mine is simply of me speaking, because I am a speaker. But choose wisely, you only have six seconds for your profile video.
Not big on doing much with your personal brand on your Facebook page? Eh, then leave it as a standard picture. It's not hurting your image at all. I do think there will be a time when everyone will convert to the video format. This should be an awaking moment for you. Everything online is converting to video. So start shooting and make yourself stand out.
